  • Junior Development Coach

    Chloe Johnston

    JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT COACH

    Hi, I’m Chloe Johnston!

I am a Junior Development Coach at Positive Energy Fitness and Tennis.

I started playing tennis when I was 10 years old and vey quickly developed a passion for the game and through training and competitions I have made many life-long friendships.

I have been lucky enough to represent Queensland at a national level on several occasions through Special Olympics. At age 16 I was part of the Australian Tennis Team competing in the World Games in Athens, where I won a gold medal in mixed doubles.

In 2019 I had the most amazing experience, representing Australia at the World Games in Abu Dhabi, returning with a bronze medal in women’s singles.

Tennis is my passion and, encouraged by my coach and mentor, Glen Bowe, I have made this sport my life as an accredited ANZ Hot Shots and Cardio Fitness Coach. I have the daily thrill of sharing my passion for tennis with others. Seeing young players improve with each training session bring me great excitement.

I love sharing the excitement that each student feels when they master the basics of forehand and backhand and have their first rally and when their first serve makes it over the net!

  • Tim Brewer

    DEVELOPMENT COACH

My name is Tim Brewer and I am a qualified Graduate Tennis Coach with ATPCA and Tennis Australia Community Coach.

My tennis journey started 10 years ago through school when I instantly fell in love with the sport. Shortly after I found myself taking lessons multiple nights a week, eventually competing in both school tennis and Saturday fixtures. I unfortunately sustained an injury some years later which brought my competitive tennis to a halt.

My Coach at the time, Glen Bowe, who is also the Australian Head Coach for Special Olympics, suggested I try my hand at coaching and I developed a passion for working with people involved with Gold Coast Rec & Sport, an association that creates opportunities for people with disabilities. Along with this I also began coaching junior students at multiple schools across the Gold Coast as well as private and group lessons at Discovery Park and Palm Meadows Tennis Centres.

I believe that all people, young and old, can develop an enjoyment of playing tennis whether for fun or competitively. It is a great way to make new friends, keep fit and have loads of fun. I hope to give others the opportunity to enjoy tennis as much as I do.

  • Jason O'Brien

    JUNIOR COACH

My enjoyment of tennis started on a family holiday when I was 11 years old.

We went down to the court every day for a hit and from that moment onwards I knew it was the sport for me.

I immediately started tennis coaching and squads, knowing I was a late starter and behind other players my age.

My family and I also became members of Discovery Park Tennis Club (DPTC) so I was playing and practicing daily.

I quickly improved my techniques, responsiveness, game play and competitiveness.

Soon I began to compete successfully in bothThursday Night and Saturday Afternoon Pennant Fixtures on the Gold Coast.

I was also selected for the Open A Tennis Team at AB Paterson College and had the honour of being appointed Tennis Captain in my final year.

In 2022 my coach, Glen Bowe, offered me the opportunity to assist coaching the beginner tennis class at AB Paterson College. I found this really rewarding and discovered I enjoyed working with children.

This must have been evident t Glen as he asked me to continue my coaching traingin at the end of the year and to become a member of his expanding coaching team at DPTC.

I completed by Tennis Australia Community Coaching Course in 2023.

Working with Glen has given me a brilliant opportunity of engaging wth people of different ages and abilities and I’m excited that through my coaching I am able to help them improve their tennis capabilities, have fun on the court and grow their love of the game.
